Cleaning Your Shutters
Shutters should be cleaned with a clean and dry cloth, a feather duster, or vacuumed with a soft brush nozzle on a regular basis. Remember, your shutters are a fine handcrafted product. With that said you, never want to apply harsh cleaners to shutters.
Leaving the window open when it is humid, damp, or raining, can damage the finish of your shutters.
Proper Operation
For shutters with the tilt bar in front, it is important to use the tilt bar to ensure that the stress of tilting is dispersed evenly on all staples. Never use a single louver to tilt; only use the tilt bar to open and close the louvers.
To open shutter panels, tilt the louvers open, reach behind the stile, and pull towards the front. Shutter panels are designed to remain closed in the frames and the louvers may be opened and closed for privacy. It is recommended that panels remain closed into the frame to prevent stress on the hinges.
Avalon wood shutters are built with tension pins and in some product lines there are also louver tension adjusters. These are located in a tension louver approximately half way up the stile on both sides of each panel. Tension is adjusted by using a #2 Phillips screwdriver; to tighten turn clockwise but do not over tighten. We recommend keeping louvers loose rather than too tight.
Keep in mind, proper care of your shutters will provide you a lifetime of beautiful window coverings.
